2007

  • Ayesha Jaco offers Dance Class as alternative to gym at Austin High School, After School Matters Club

2008

  • Move Me Soul is formed as a teen dance company
  • Yolanda Pittman Maloney joins program as instructor
  • Move Me Soul becomes an After School Matters Dance Apprentice program providing stipends to 30 teens.
  • Company presents first annual Winter and Spring dance concerts.

2009

  • Move Soul begins implementing career readiness and STD prevention workshops
  • Program becomes After School Matters Apprenticeship
  • Move Soul offers first Summer Intensive for 15 Austin Teens
  • Company presents 1st Summer Dance Concert
  • Selected teens participate in Lupe Fiasco Foundation’s Off The Block Global Exchange program pairing Austin teens with teens in South Korea.

2010

  • Move Me Soul performs at IAPHERD National Conference, St. Charles IL
  • 10 Young men enrolled as apprentice artists
  • Diana Muhammad joins program as Choreographer/Instructor

2011

  • First Graduating class attends college
  • Lincoln College scouts dancers at Spring Concert.
  • Shalonza Wickliffe receives full dance scholarship to Lincoln University
  • Alumni Company Formed
  • Move Me Soul honors Steve Cobb and Chavunduka as Winter Concert Community Artists Recipients.
  • Winter, Spring and Summer dance concert audiences surpass 200
  • 100% of graduating seniors attend college.

2012

  • Move Me Soul performs at Kwanzaa at Chicago State University
  • Move Me Soul performs at Black Women’s Expo Gala.
  • Move Me Soul honors legacy of Oscar Brown Jr. at presents family with award at Winter Concert.
  • Move Me Soul partners with Skill Up Chicago and Lupe Fiasco Foundation’s study abroad efforts to send 2 dancers to Ghana.

2013

  • Move Me Soul become artists in residence at the Austin Resource Center
  • 2 Alumni attend Children’s Defense Fund Conference in Tennessee.

2014

  • Move Me Soul Instructors co-facilitate in After School Matters Dance Winter Intensive with Hi-Def Dance Ensemble at Roosevelt University-January 2014
  • Teens perform for Jesse White Black History Celebration, State of Illinois Building (February 2014)
  • Teens featured in Najwa Dance Corps Black History Month Extravaganza, DuSable Museum February 2014
  • Move Me Soul Partners with college enrichment program and sends 10 graduating seniors on college tour to Talledega College in Alabama-March 2014
  • Move Me Soul performs for South African Youth Day-June 2014
  • Move Me Soul Performs for South African Women’s Day-August 2014
  • Teens Perform for 1st Annual AAHH Fest at Union Park-September 2014
  • Over 500 audience members attend Winter, Spring and Summer Shows.
